Last weekend the first tour-stop of the Zillertal Valley Rally came to Hintertux! A four stop Slopestyle series throughout the Valley with finishing with Finals and the Crowning of An Overall tour King at Mayrhofen in February!
The contest ran with a three run, best run counts format. Unfortunately the recent spell of good weather had come to an end with the winds picking up dramatically and cloud coming in and out, it made for an interesting competition that’s for sure. The T Bar was even turned off leaving the competitors to hike the park.
With the wind changing direction and speed frequently it was important to wait and pick your drop. Lucky enough all the GB lads were able to stick a run and decided to call it early and no risk the chance of injury. There was a strong field of riders, having most of the national teams training here for the past month, the conditions were causing trouble, endless knuckles and overshoots, the hard thing was to put down a clean run.
We all played it safe with BS 7s into a rail trick on the Gas Pipe feature, Lewis went all out and stomped a Switch Backside 900 but unfortunately couldn’t hold on in the landing of the following kicker. It was still good enough to take home Best Trick which he was really stoked on! Rowan claimed 1st Rookie and 2nd in Men’s, I took 3rd in Men’s and Canadian Pro Jordan Phillips grabbed 1st.
So stoked to do well this early in the season, being based in Hoff for the winter I’ll be doing my best to get to the rest of the contests, and try my best for overall King. Super fun day, awesome to see GB Team taking home a load of prizes and podiums, yes team!
